This Is Our Jam: AraabMuzik, “After Hours”

araabmuzik
AraabMuzik is at odds with his abilities. On the one hand, you have an MPC savant who can hammer out the most grinding, abrasive, jackhammer noise this side of Skrillex; on the other, you've got an artist who clearly loves subtle ambiance and the chilled-out sheen of Euro-trance.
On his recently released track "Runaway Bass," he embraced the former tendencies to an almost farcical degree (honestly, if you can listen to that song on your headphones, more power to you), and his live sets skew heavily toward the wub-wubs of the current electronic circuit. With new single, "After Hours," though, we get a taste of what the guy who put out 2011's gorgeous Electronic Dream, and a return to using his super powers to instill atmosphere, rather than dominate it. It's great hearing the AraabMuzik meant for night driving and after-after parties, even if his buzz saws are still kept close at hand.
