Style Syllabus: How To Pack An All-Day Bag

Who better to dish about college style and trends than actual students? For our newly relaunched Style Syllabus series, we've partnered with College Fashionista to bring you the fashion and shopping stories that matter for our readers still in school. Enjoy!
The day in the life of a college student is anything but boring. From classes, internships, group meetings, library dates, and a little thing we like to call a “social life,” a single day can take you just about anywhere. However, that doesn't mean that you get to stop home in between each one of these engagements. To truly be prepared for anything, here are six simple steps to packing the perfect all-day bag to take you everywhere you need to go this summer.

A tote bag is a college student’s best friend. The streamlined, oversized shape looks appropriate in just about any situation. Plus, it can fit all your daily must-haves with no problem. Look for one in a fun color for the perfect pop to any outfit.

Pouches are a big trend right now, for good reason. Stash a couple to-go makeup products inside along with your calculator, writing utensils, and other miscellany. Meeting friends for dinner after your long day? Your pouch can double as a clutch. Just stash your bag at coat check or in a safe, dark corner!

LOFT Beaded Striped Pouch, $29.50, available at LOFT.

Even though it may be summer out, it seems like every classroom or office likes to keep their temperature just around freezing. Be prepared with the perfect layering cardigan. Make sure it is thin enough so it won't weigh you down but still keep you warm.

J. Crew Featherweight Cardigan, $55, available at J. Crew.

You're probably running around all day in flats, but for those impromptu events during the day where you'll have to look a bit more polished, we like a heel with a soft upper and a chunky heel (no stiletto-punctured bags, now!).

Kimchi Blue Peep-Toe Heel, $49, available at Urban Outfitters.
