These days, it seems like there are so many nontraditional ways to top the Billboards. Case in point: YouTube and televised singing competitions (hello, One Direction?) have pretty much guaranteed that a talented young singer has a built-in, frenzied fanbase before he or she even releases an album. Now, add another method to the list: modeling at Fashion Week.
Newbie songstress Alexandra McDermott appeared at an Erin Fetherston casting last fall, and Fetherston saw a few of McDermott's YouTube videos afterward. The two fell in career-love, with Fetherston casting McDermott to appear in her spring lookbook and an exclusive-to-R29 video, in which the young starlet's powerful voice accompanies footage of her prepping, modeling, and performing at the spring '13 show.
Says Fetherson, "As soon as I met Alexandra, I fell in love with her look and once I heard her sing, I was blown away by her incredible talent. I like the idea of finding new, undiscovered talent and collaborating together in a way that helps give them a platform. I think that is artistic collaboration at its best."
