15 Accessory Trends To Update Your Look

There's that old fashion rule that goes, "Before you leave the house, take one thing off." But, that's not language we really understand. In fact, we think the rule should be to put one thing on, especially when you're lucky enough to be surrounded by all manner of pretty trinkets, baubles, and treasures. If you ask us, it's the accessories that really make an outfit, and they separate those who like fashion from those who have fun with it. Essentially, these embellishments are the proverbial cherry on top of the fashion sundae — and who would ever turn down the opportunity for more of those?
The last of the Paris Fashion Week shows just wrapped, which means we've now ended our hunt for accessory trends with the potential to make the biggest splash on your wrists, necks, and feet. Ahead, you'll see some you'll like, some you'll detest, but with 15 to choose from, we're sure you'll find something that will make you fall in love.

Low-Profile Pointed Booties — With a stretch upper and a structured sole, this low-pro bootie is leg-lengthening and totally sexy, but still easy to walk in. Balenciaga makes the most iconic one, but many other designers churned out their own versions.

Single Earrings — The '80s makes a strong return with the single statement earring. Choose a piece that veers on the glamorous, feminine side. Anything with too many shark teeth and crosses will have you looking like George Michael.

Leather Evening Gloves — Sure, your social calendar might be a little light on galas, but these elbow-length gloves can take a regular wintertime bundle-up to new, elegant heights. Scrunch up your jacket sleeves, and show 'em off.

Floral Brooches — Ranging from realistic blooms to leather-cutout interpretations of botanicals, the runway's floral brooches felt like a cool, modern approach — not a corsage for prom. Rock one with a boxy jacket and casual wear, and avoid tux-cut blazers.

Skinny Scarves — Tie this tight around your neck, and let the ends lie flat against your chest. This skinny-tie look is glamorous without being fussy — and it's a great update for longer pendant necklaces.

Transparent-Lensed Plastic Shades — Channel your inner Yves Saint Laurent with these retro sunglasses with transparent lenses. In plasticky finishes, these sunnies will make you look like a fashion plate, not a playboy.

Phrase Clutches — Oversized envelope clutches have been riding strong as a trend for a few years, but they're now coming emblazoned with phrases. Quippy, sarcastic, and sometimes nonsensical, these bags let you put your mouth where your money is.

Championship Belts — Super wide and super rad, these big, minimalist belts help keep loose layers in check. Wear them with oversized tops or high-waisted pants for a trim effect.

Baggy Boots — This fall's version of the knee-high boot is a little more relaxed-looking than footwear in seasons past. Wear these with short hemlines only — with pants or midi-length skirts, a baggy boot can create a sloppy silhouette.

Sporty Headbands — Pick up a jersey headband at your local drugstore (or wait for the on-trend colors to drop this fall). Wear them with a slick, straight hairstyle for a '90s throwback that's practical, too.

Minimalist Chain Bags — The Chanel 2.55 is the classic, but we loved all of the clean, streamlined versions of the chain bag we saw from a range of designers. The prim Rebecca Minkoff one is an instant classic, but we adored how badass the gold box bag with the XL-sized chains was at Prada.

Embellished Trouser Socks — This one's for you, nerdy girls. Wearing socks with your fancy shoes is a fun styling tip we love to employ every chance we get. And, this season's pretty pairs almost stole the spotlight from their accompanying heels and flats.
