The '80s Beauty Trends We're Dying To Bring Back

Okay, we know you know the '90s are back. We've been talking about it for months. And, just like when we were actually in the '90s, we're starting to grow tired of it. There's only so much vamp lipstick and middle parts a girl can take. So, where do we look for the next big trends in beauty? The answer, of course, is backwards — if the '90s aren't doing it, might as well take a journey through time into the decade where the hair was bigger, the contouring was sharper, and the lipstick more orange. That's right, we're talking about the glorious 1980s.
While for many, it might have been a decade of beauty regrets, we like to think of this as the time when women really leaned in to their looks. Subtlety had no place in the '80s — it was a "go big or go home" situation, and we're hereby endorsing a revival. Rid yourself of any preconceived notion that '80s equals tacky, and then click through to see the amazing looks of yore. You might be surprised at what inspires you.

Perfectly Curled Ends

Remember Michelle Pfeiffer's sleek blonde bob with curled-under ends? It's a testament to the gorgeousness that can happen when straight-haired girls start embracing their texture. We're also digging her middle part/bangs combo. It frames her heart-shaped face so well, without looking too youthful.

Virgin Brows

We're not sure if Brooke Shields' eyebrows were actually virgins, but they sure look untweezed. We think the untouched brow should be the new bold brow. It would certainly save us a lot of time in the morning.

Androgynous Shag

Who says short hair is the only way for hot girls to look androgynous? Joan Jett's iconic shag says andro-hip like nothing else, ever. We're not going to call it a mullet because it's so much more than that.

Oh, the flip! We'll never really be over the '80s-style deep side-part, shown here on the cheeky Erica Goldberg from ABC's new retro-fabulous comedy The Goldbergs.
Tune in to see what else Erica has up her sleeve. And, we'll catch you on the flip side.

The Goldbergs totally premieres on Tuesday, September 24 at 9/8c. Advertisement

Orange Frosted Everything

Joan Collins' look is our favorite example of someone who is really just going for it. Why just do one part of your look orange when you can do... all of it? From her eyeshadow to her lips to her cheeks and even her nails, this is one orange frosted lady.

Bleached Pixies

What's better than a short crop? A bleached blonde crop, of course, like Brigitte Nielsen's fabulous 'do. This is surely the next stop off the pixie train that everyone is recently hopping on.

Big, Bodacious Hair

Tina Turner's mane was as enormous as it was fabulous. Why can't all hair be this huge, all the time? We're also loving her matte orange lip — and, speaking of orange, is that orange leather she's wearing? We hope so.

Perfectly Imperfect Waves

Jody Watley's long, long waves are just doing their own thing — and it's working for us. We love how her waves aren't perfectly even, nor perfectly silky. Also: Those. Brows.

The Flat Top

Thank you, Grace Jones, for proving that women can and should rock flat tops. She looks so fabulously fierce. It helps that her brows are angled upwards — we're going to have to work our way up to that part, though.

Contrasting Brow And Hair Color

Of all of Madonna's wonderful looks, we're particular to this one — why match your brows to your hair when you can, well, not? It's one of those unapologetic '80s vibes we're after. It's like she's saying, "Yeah, I dyed my hair, so obviously it doesn't match my brows. What?"

Apricot Lipstick

Molly Ringwald's peachy apricot lipstick is just about the prettiest shade we've ever seen. Not to mention the fact that it matches her hair, which we're into. Looks like she brushed out her curls to get this fluffy, voluminous bob shape, and we're digging it.
