Bed frames on the ceiling, mid-century bubble lamps, and graffiti shouldn’t work, but somehow, they all come together beautifully at The Fourth. The new restaurant from the husband-wife team behind Tocqueville and 15 East serves next-level brasserie fare that’s so rustic, its menu is divided into sections titled “livestock” and “starch.” We’ll take two of each, please!
On the style front, try a turquoise top and royal-purple pencil skirt for a combination that’s a fitting union of upscale and unpretentious.

The cocktail bar adjacent to eternally hot Momofuku Ssäm raises mixology to high art. The drink menu can change multiple times a night. Wear something cute and colorful with a liberal dose of whimsy. Then belly up to the bar, and ask the bartender to make you something with flames or liquid nitrogen. They’re the drinks of the future, today!

The gastropub goes haute cuisine. Unpretentious comfort food and amazing desserts from wd~50's Wylie Dufresne make this the perfect dinner-date spot. Wear an outfit that’s as clean and graphic as the white-brick walls, and definitely try the root-beer pudding — if only we could order that stuff by the gallon.

Manhattan’s newest It cuisine? Georgian food! This low-key spot on Avenue B serves up a whole new land of intricately spiced shish kebabs, slow-cooked lamb, and dumplings to explore. Trust us — it’s a beautiful thing.
Fashion-wise, think casual, simple separates that nod to the restaurant’s Alphabet City roots. Now, tuck into that canoe-sized, stuffed cheese bread like it’s your last day in Tbilisi.
Oda House, 76 Avenue B (between E. Fifth and E. Sixth streets); 212-353-3838.

These days, speakeasy-style cocktail bars are as common as egg whites in a pisco sour. We love this Billyburg newcomer, though, because it has all the inventive, quirky cocktails, but none of the vintage pretensions.
Follow suit in this ultramodern take on a sweatshirt and flats — after all, comfort’s key when queuing up for your third Hemingway daiquiri.

Better than Luger’s? Yep, better than Luger’s. Ever since New York magazine named St. Anselm’s $15 hanger steak the best in the city, you’re lucky if you can get a seat at this unassuming steakhouse. But when you finally sit down to your perfectly grilled hunk of hanger, you’ll believe.
Stylewise, casual-cool is the name of the game — and we definitely recommend shorts if you end up seated next to the grill on an 80-degree day.
St. Anselm, 355 Metropolitan Avenue (between N. Fourth and Havemeyer streets); 718-384-5054.

Of the many things Eastern Europeans do well, pierogies, sausage, and beer are probably nearest to our hearts. You can get all three at Kristophe, the new warm and rustic spot from Krzysztof Drzewiecki (better known for his beloved Polish restaurant, Krolewskie Jadlo, in Greenpoint).
A low-key look matches the room’s sultry wine-cellar vibe, and the oversized sweater — while not strictly required — leaves all the more room for schnitzel.
Kristophe, 221 N. Fourth Street (between Havemeyer and Roebling streets); 718-302-5100.

With its black-leather club chairs, low-lit vibe, and truly impressive selection of Scotch and craft beers, Isle of Skye is like the library of a whiskey-swilling sophisticate — and that’s a good thing in our book.
Give a nod to the British Isles in this modern fisherman sweater (made 10 times more fun with a graphic mini and bright tote), and see if you can luck into one of Isle’s free whiskey tastings.
Isle of Skye, 488 Driggs Avenue (between N. Ninth and N. 10th streets); 347-384-2772.

If Gwyneth ever deigned to visit Bushwick (as if), we think she’d be pretty enamored by Fitzcarraldo. The new venture from Henry Rich and Julian Brizzi, owners of Boerum Hill’s much-loved Rucola, gives local ingredients a Northern Italian twist. Think chilled fava-and-mint soup, ramps with smoked-almond pesto, and downright life-changing breakfast pastries.
The food may be peasant-inspired, but the dining room is patterned after a crumbling opera house in a Werner Herzog film. So, we think a little sartorial grandeur is called for — such as Three Floor’s delicate lace-overlay dress, a sleek gold cuff, and a clutch with major pop.
Fitzcarraldo, 195 Morgan Avenue (between Meadow and Stagg streets); 718-233-2566.
Three Floor Shades of Blue Dress, $261.53, available at Three Floor; Topshop Ratchet Block Strappy Heels, $77.83, available at Topshop; Vince Camuto Cutout Cuff Bracelet, $148, available at Vince Camuto; Proenza Schouler Small Lunch Bag Gradient Clutch, $1,450, available at Luisaviaroma; Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Babydoll, $30, available at Sephora.

In keeping with the neighborhood, Miles is a no-frills, laid-back place to chat up your bartender while getting a stiff, perfectly mixed drink and a small plate. If you need more convincing, we have four words for you: free mac and cheese. Every Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m. Did Miles just shoot to the top of your to-try list, or what?
Also in keeping with the neighborhood, the crowd is model-off-duty cool. Try a chic, striped top and a pencil skirt in beyond-comfy jersey fabric, and settle in for that Tuesday-night, bring-your-own-records dance party.
Miles, 101 Wilson Ave (between Troutman and Starr streets); 718-483-9172.

Boisterous, welcoming, and always packed, Peaches is down-home Southern cooking…if your mama made an unearthly good blackened catfish with grits and the best chicken wings this side of Buffalo, that is.
The crowd at Peaches is as unpretentious as the chow, but the look is definitely colorful and subtly dressed to impress. A shrunken sweater and sporty miniskirt make you the chicest thing chomping on a shrimp po’ boy.
Peaches, 393 Lewis Ave (at MacDonough St.); 718-942-4162.

Together with its few-doors-down neighbor, Do or Dine, this brand new bar is making Bed-Stuy a destination for late-night sip seekers. The byword at Dynaco is “warm” — cozy, vintage-sourced booths and an insanely good chocolate cake make this a divey date spot par excellence.
What to wear to your new neighborhood go-to? Try something clean and sporty that does double-duty — in case a table at Do or Dine ever opens up. And if it doesn’t, Dynaco’s expertly curated beer list makes a pretty great consolation prize.

If you’re used to bustling, scene-y bars in Manhattan, this beyond-chill spot is a welcome relief. 67 Orange also boasts expertly seasoned small plates (get the Parmesan fries!) and one of the city’s few female mixologists.
Jeans and a T-shirt are definitely the way to go here. Now go ahead, grab an Earl Grey-infused gin cocktail, and make yourself at home.

This Harlem hotspot is always hopping. An open-late kitchen and one of the biggest and best courtyards in the city make it a great place to grab an after-hours bite — may we recommend the buttermilk fried chicken?

A dressed-to-impress crowd, a massive drink menu, and brunch that’s truly worth the wait makes Corner Social Harlem’s hippest destination.
If you do hit it up, keep yourself comfy in a denim-on-denim outfit that’s equal parts chic and comfy. And consider yourself warned — the cornflake-crusted French toast might just ruin all other breakfast foods for you, forever.
