25 Fall Wardrobe Essentials Your Closet Needs

It's been awhile since we last thought about layering our clothing for weather, as opposed to just for style. But for the majority of us who live in weather changing seasons (throwing you some envious side-eye Florida and California), fall’s arrival means waving goodbye to our beloved off-the-shoulder dresses. If unpacking your plastic bin of half-pilled sweaters and parkas is as heartbreaking for you as it is for us, we’re here to remind you that fall is actually the underdog for closet cleansing.
After all, fall is more than just sweater weather. With wildly-changing weather that can throw you from summer-like heat to chilly winds in just one day, a true fall outfit is more than the sum of it's chunky knit parts. Ahead, we’ve rounded up 25 fall essentials to give your closet the refresher it needs. From two-tone floral dresses, to corduroy's triumphant return, these trends — from Fall 2017's runways to Instagram's latest cult items —are ready to cheer those post-summer blues.

17. Layerable Slip Dress
Yeah, yeah slip dresses are a thing. We can practically hear the “we know” groans from everyone. But have you explored stepping beyond a slip dress and a t-shirt? Finding a dress that’s a little more flexible (like cotton or a lighter silk) provides a multitude of styling options. Tuck one side into a pair of jeans, layer it under an asymmetric skirt, let it sit over a patchwork button down shirt and under an open puffer coat. The options are endless.
