The 5 Makeup Trends We Can't Wait To Try This Summer

Summer makeup trends are a bit like florals for spring. Pretty, but definitely not groundbreaking. Year after year, you can pretty much expect the same lineup: coral lips, gold lids, and bronze skin.
But this year, things are finally taking a turn. Blame it on our obsession with unicorns or holographic makeup, but everyone seems to be leaning toward pretty pastel washes, graphic cool tones, and dewy finishes this season. The best part? Each color trend can be worn subtly for the minimalist types or layered for the peacocks out there.

White Out

Are you late to work because you have to perfect your cat-eye? Then this trend is for you. Swap out your go-to black (it will be hard, but we believe in you) for something fresh like white or even lilac.

Want to go bolder? Use your liner for a fun, graphic shape. We love L'Oréal's new Infallible Paints Eyeliner in White Party for the crispest lines.

Sunset Eyes

The most literal interpretation of summer makeup has to be sunset eyes. But somehow the two-toned effect is extremely soft, flattering, and wearable.

The trend is yet another extension of the Danish concept, hygge, which reveres warmth and comfort. Looking to cop the look? Try Anastasia Beverly Hill's Modern Renaissance Palette which features an excellent selection of burnt orange, pink, and bronze hues.

I Can See Your Holo

Holographic makeup is a beauty trend we quite frankly never thought to ask for, but are glad to see just about everywhere. The glossy shimmer can be worn alone or on top of other makeup to create an otherworldly glow.

We love how it looks on cheekbones and brow bones most. Check out Milk Makeup's Holographic Stick to achieve this effect. Not feelin' lilac? Laura Geller's Diamond Dust Illuminator is a softer pink that's a bit more subtle.

Blue Is The Warmest Color

Blue makeup is still going strong — one full year later. But this time we're not talking frosty colors or pastel washes extending all the way to the brow bone; this season is all about bold dramatic colors like royal blue.

We love wearing the shade all over the lid, but for those looking for a subtler pop of color, a swipe of blue under the eyes will do the trick. Try MAC's Chromagraphic Pencil in Cyan to mimic Shay Mitchell's look.

Pastels

Pastels are getting a major revamp for 2017 thanks to clever application methods. Some are stamping different shades all over their lids, or adding a layer of gloss for a modern effect.

Looking to copy that on-trend sheen? It couldn't be easier. Simply pack a pastel shadow all over your lid and tap a clear gloss on top (we like this one from Maybelline).
