6 Cool Brands To Shop At This New Beauty Destination For Women Of Color

It's an unfortunate reality that for many women with darker skin tones, shopping for beauty products isn't as easy as grabbing their laptop and logging onto their favorite beauty e-retailer. I can't tell you the number of times I've tried to do so on a lazy Saturday morning, ready to throw down my credit card on some new makeup, only to find there was nothing for my skin tone.
Yes, there have been strides made within the industry. But we still have a ways to go regarding inclusivity in beauty. Thankfully, Kimberly Smith, an Ivy League-trained attorney, is stepping up. Smith traveled the world looking for unique products for women of color — then she created the magic that is Marjani Beauty Company.
Marjani, which launched in late February, is a digital treasure trove for products that speak to women of color across the globe. From argan oil straight out of Morocco to ayurvedic oils from India, Smith's eye for curating a diverse beauty destination is impeccable.
Ahead, check out six globally-minded brands to know from Marjani. Who said you need a passport to take a trip around the world?

AJ Crimson Beauty

This eponymous beauty line, named after the pro who's worked with Missy Elliot and Fergie, is packed with pigment as a response to the lack of color options Crimson saw on shelves. “I wanted to create a product inclusive of women of all ethnicities, a product all women could find ownership in and believe in," Crimson said on his site. "So often, makeup has been designed with a one size fits all mentality. My cosmetic line contains shades for women of every ethnic background."

If you want to take a break from your usual matte or nude lip, try slicking on his metallic gloss in Dutty Wine, a deep, dark berry.

Marena Beaute

No swatch struggles here. Marena Beaute was created by Swedish makeup artist Diarry Maréna, who studied color analysis within her 10-year career. With her knowledge, the native of Senegal was able to craft a line of foundations that range from Monrovia (a medium color with reddish undertones) to Khartoum (a chocolately brown).

True Moringa

With this line, you don't have to worry about clogging your pores with anything impure: True Moringa's soaks, scrubs, and other skin-care goods are 100%vegan. And, of course, each product is infused with moringa seed oil.

Make your five-minute shower a little more luxurious with the Rejuvenating Body Polish, made with Nicaraguan coffee beans to wake you up a little before that first cappuccino.

AfroDeity was created by a Caribbean mother-daughter duo, who were inspired by butters and oils found on the islands. Alicia, a drug scientist, named the line's new luxury range after Joliette, the family's matriarch.

The Caribbean Coconut Hair Treatment Mask is full of argan and prickly pair seed oils and smells the way you'd expect an all-expenses paid vacation to the tropics to.

AfroDeity Joliette Caribbean Coconut Hair Treatment Mask, $18, available at Marjani.

Breedlove Beauty Co.

Sometimes, keeping it simple is the best practice. At least, that's how Breedlove's founders see it. According to the site, the brand is "based on the need to take the complexity out of skin care and create a more minimalist approach" — and they aren't joking around. The product labels are so easy to read...like, one ingredient-easy.

Liquid Courage

When Roshell Rinkins, a self-proclaimed tomboy, purchased her first lipstick, she was 23 — and she's been hooked ever since. So much so that she founded Liquid Courage, an Insta-popular brand with matte liquid lipsticks that give Kylie's a run for their money.

Right now, we're craving Toffee — a light brown matte that looks good enough to...well, you know.

Liquid Courage Liquid Matte Lipstick, $19.99, available at Marjani.
