This Man Does His Wife's Hair Every Day — & The Reason Is So Sweet

Celebrity hairstylist Matt Fugate and his wife Laura Gammel have the kind of modern relationship that can only be described with the hashtag #relationshipgoals. The New York transplants both have successful careers in the city, both are devoted dog parents, and he does her hair every morning. While the latter might sound typical for a live-in stylist — albeit a major fantasy for anyone who dreams of having a glam squad — the story behind it will have you wishing for a commitment like theirs.

"We made a New Year's resolution together to wake up 30 minutes earlier and have Matt do my hair every single morning of 2017," Laura says. The goal? QT, baby. And it's working. "We're getting out of bed earlier, I go to work with great-looking hair, and we have a small moment together in the morning to start the day off right together," she says. But don't think she's the only one making out from the sweet deal. "She always wants something different, which is great as it allows me to be creative," Matt adds. "She let's me be free in styling — it's refreshing."

Ahead, the couple shares a few of the standout looks Matt's created on Laura so far this year — and how it's brought them closer than ever.

"[Laura] is my muse, so I love being able to use my gift of hair to make her smile," says Matt, who styled this while they were together in Bali for her sister's wedding

During that trip, they visited the temples. "We were walked through a traditional cleansing ceremony, which was a moment we will both never forget, and the look of my braided updo when I came out of the water was a hair photo opp we couldn't miss," says Laura.

"This was done after having my hair in braids," says Laura. "My hair bends and waves so easily because it's bleached, so Matt just wanted to work with the natural texture of it," says Laura.

"For my sister's wedding, Matt wanted to do something that was super stress-free on my hair after days of swimming in chlorine, so he gently coiled sections of my hair to give the appearance of a much more intricate hairstyle. He also whipped this up in under five minutes.... no joke!"

"This was on a layover in Hong Kong," says Laura. "His inspiration was to create an updo that would still allow me to wear my huge headphones, and he came up with these amazing asymmetric buns."

"I woke up late and gave Matt two minutes to do my hair while I was putting on my makeup — and he didn't do a bad job at all!" Laura laughs.

"We don't always get to spend our weekends together, due to our crazy schedules, so we jumped at the opportunity to spend a Sunday off together at Sky Ting Yoga. [We did] a workshop that included tea making, meditation, palm readings, and more. I wanted my hair up and easy, and this is possibly my favorite hairstyle he's done in 2017 yet!" says Laura.

"This was after I came back from Bali with extremely damaged hair, so Matt wanted to keep my hair up, but loose, so as not to put any stress on it," says Laura.

"This was another post-Bali style, trying not to manipulate my hair too much so I could work on getting it strong again," says Laura. "Matt is also making me use these amazing Kerastase supplements that have finally gotten my hair back to a somewhat normal texture and health.... Well, for someone with white hair anyway..."

"Matt pulled this back and wrapped it in a DIY elastic so he could maneuver how tight my pony was. Simple, yet special."
