16 Inappropriate Outfits The Pretty Little Liars Wore To Funerals

Photo: Courtesy of ABC Family
Pretty Little Liars Hanna (Ashley Benson), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Emily (Shay Mitchell), and Aria (Lucy Hale) are known for their sartorial choices. Each has her own distinct personal style, which shines through even in the most dire of situations. They also have no idea how to blend in. When they do aim for subtly, they fail miserably. (Remember, these are the same girls who chose candy-striper nurse costumes for breaking into the basement of a morgue.)

After six seasons, the liars have attended one memorial (for Alison) and FIVE funerals. A funeral for Alison, and others for Ian, Detective Wilden, Mrs. DiLaurentis, and Mona. (This actually seems like a low count for a series that begins with a high schooler’s mysterious murder.)

These have to be the only girls in Rosewood, nay, the world who believe that rompers, sheer miniskirts, and platform heels are appropriate attire for a funeral. Ahead, a look at their idea of mourning attire.

Aria Montgomery At Alison's Funeral
Of course, Aria just HAS to wear lace tights. Because she’s an artist! And plain black tights aren’t enough for Aria to express herself!

Hanna Marin At Alison's Memorial
Hanna paired this dress with a blazer, which means she tried. Unfortunately, she’s wearing a bright-teal dress to a memorial for her dead frenemy. Always wear black to any memorial or funeral, Hanna. Always.

Aria Montgomery At Alison's Memorial
Aria Montgomery! Strappy black sandals are NEVER okay for a memorial service. Neither are sheer sleeves. She looks like she's ready to hit the bars after the eulogy (probably to meet an older BF).

Spencer Hastings At Ian's Funeral
The dress is fine. Her hair is fine. But then she just had to add a sheer shrug and a black choker. This outfit is now perfect for a remake of '90s goth-girl favorite The Craft. But inappropriate for the funeral of your sister's creepy husband, who you sometimes kissed.

Hanna Marin At Ian's Funeral
This dress is gorgeous, but maybe a little inappropriate for a funeral. Why? It could be the subtle split at the thighs or the low-cut V-neck. But really, it’s the fascinator cocked to the side of her head. Really, Hanna? A fascinator?! Rosewood is NOT in England.

Emily Fields At Detective Wilden's Funeral
Oh, Emily. You were doing so well! Every outfit up until this point is so tasteful. But your dress for creepy Detective Wilden’s funeral — with crazy, sequined zigzags at the bottom, and a HUGE cutout in the back — clearly screams, “IDGAF about this guy.”

Hanna Marin (ALMOST) At Ian's Funeral
An honorable mention has to go to the funeral outfit that almost was! Hanna actually wanted to wear a bright-red body-con dress to Ian’s funeral, proving she has no chill. Special shout-out to Ashley Marin for calling Hanna on her terribly inappropriate funeral fashion choices!

Aria Montgomery At Detective Wilden's Funeral
Aria, I know you gotta do you. But maybe do...less? Like, no red shoes or red bracelets or red belts with rhinestones? And maybe not a bodice with a black-and-white border? Someone is dead, girl.

Mona Vanderwaal At Detective Wilden's Funeral
Mona isn’t officially one of the major four liars, but she’s key to some of the show's biggest plot twists. Just like the liars, Mona is all about maintaining her own style — even at a funeral. Sure, she's able to get away with murder, but those shoes cannot pass. Platforms with sparkly, champagne-colored bows are NOT funeral appropriate.

Hanna Marin At Detective Wilden's Funeral
Is anyone else starting to think that Hanna is just punking us? A full-length gown? That’s completely sheer at the bottom? With purple, open-toe pumps? And a purple snakeskin clutch? To a funeral? If this isn’t a joke, I don’t know what is.

Emily Fields At Mrs. DiLaurentis' Funeral
SHE'S WEARING A ROMPER! Come on, now they're not even trying.

Hanna Marin At Mrs. DiLaurentis' Funeral
Hanna is wearing a short dress with a cutout in the back. And she’s paired it with a studded belt. That’s not terrible, compared to her previous funeral outfits. But then you look down at her lime-green, high-heel strappy sandals and all hope is lost.

Spencer Hastings At Mrs. DiLaurentis' Funeral
A lacy black dress is borderline inappropriate for a funeral. A lacy black dress with pastel-colored flowers printed all over it? Just plain weird. And super inappropriate.

Alison DiLaurentis At Mona Vanderwaal's Funeral
Ali, I know you’re new to being alive again, but here’s a bit of advice: Never show up to a funeral when you're the prime murder suspect. Especially not in a pink-and-red floral dress. You had to know a slap was coming your way, right?

Emily Fields At Mona Vanderwaal's Funeral
Emily looks great! But that’s a pretty deep V for a funeral. And is it a dress, or blazer she’s turned into a dress? Of course, there’s leather and sheer material peeking out at the bottom. It must be mandatory for at least one liar to wear leather and/or see-through clothing to every funeral they attend.

When is it ever appropriate to wear a dress with a giant ruffle that wraps around your body like a boa constrictor?
