Ah, high school: How we don't miss thee. As if the awkwardness of being a teenager isn't enough, some schools apparently want to ruin students' experiences with absurd disciplinary measures. Back in May, a student was suspended over an innocent knee-length dress. Now, a different high school is making headlines for a similarly ridiculous suspension.

South Carolina news station WSPA reports that openly gay high school student Briana Popour was suspended for wearing a T-shirt that read: "Nobody knows I'm a lesbian." Popour said she was told her shirt was disruptive and an administrator stated, "You need to change your shirt or go home."

The news station contacted the school, located in Chesnee, SC, to ask about Popour's suspension. "They didn’t call us back," WSPA writes, "but the district sent us an email saying the shirt was 'offensive and distracting,' with links to the dress code policy. It says, 'Clothing deemed distracting, revealing, overly suggestive, or otherwise disruptive will not be permitted.'"

Popour says the shirt represents her identity and other gay teens shouldn't be afraid to express theirs. “Isn’t that what school is supposed to teach you?" she said. "To be happy with who you are? Maybe people will be more comfortable showing who they are because you should be able to wear what you want to wear.” Now that's a sentiment we can certainly get behind. Peek at the video below to see the segment in its entirety.
