9 Times Kim Kardashian Ignored "Maternity Style" & Nailed It

Kim Kardashian has come a long way from organizing the closets of Beverly Hills socialites (#TBT). Now, every one of her moves is closely followed, examined, and scrutinized — and when she uses that attention to demonstrate something of substance, it really gets interesting. Never is that attention more omnipresent than during the reality star's pregnancies.

Kardashian-West been quite candid and open about her struggles to conceive. So it's no surprise Kim is using fashion — one of her favorite mediums — as a way to celebrate the fact that she's once again expecting. She fully embraces her pregnancy, utilizing her sartorial choices to flaunt, highlight, and accentuate her growing belly, as opposed to hiding it under stretchy, baggy clothing. And girl is killing it.

There was no shortage of great fashion moments from Kardashian-West's pregnancy with first-born (and toddler style sensation) North. But none of them included the standard flowy-tunic-and-muumuu fare one would expect to find on offer at any given maternity section. One of the most memorable was, of course, her Met Gala debut. Kim was clad in a long-sleeved (and gloved), allover floral print gown by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy — which, like any formfitting silhouette, is meant to highlight every curve of one's frame. Tisci had a hand in one of Kim's most standout pregnancy looks for Baby West #2, too: She arrived at Givenchy's Spring '16 show in New York decked in a custom look from the brand that put the spotlight on her thinly veiled belly.

Granted, Kim has the luxury of calling on her many fashion industry friends to create custom maternity looks. (Don't hold out for Balmain Maternity.) But we have to give Kim K. props for showing that pregnancy isn't something you should use try to hide. Ahead, nine times Kim K. has said "fuck it" to textbook maternity style.

Body-con or bust: Even 34,000 feet in the air (and an extra passenger in tow), Kardashian-West isn't about to take a nine-month hiatus from her signature style. The reality star keeps her dresses formfitting, her heels high, and her sunglasses sleek. A cropped moto jacket is there for the lewk — not to hide her belly.

Where Kim K. likely does most of her pregnancy shopping. (Read: Not a maternity store.)

Whereas most maternity clothes are meant to hide, Kim Kardashian-West isn't afraid to show. In fact, she embraces it, never shying away from a silhouette that traces every contour of her frame.

A perennial style "rule" that we all secretly want to break: leggings aren't pants. When you need comfort (or you're growing a baby inside of you and want a little wiggle room), these stretchy bottoms are there. Kardashian-West turns her white-hot pair into a bonafide suit, matching them with a lightweight T-shirt and longline coat in the same hue.

Kim isn't one to shy away from daring textures. She quickly embraced the New York Fashion Week spirit before the festivities even kicked off in a high-neck sheer top, velvety midi-skirt, and matching blazer.

For a photo shoot in the Big Apple, Kardashian-West went for a comfortable, sleeveless knit midi-dress — a silhouette that hugs her figure comfortably, while still having a bit of stretch. Her high-heeled, peep-toe leather boots, though, are a different story. But then again, Kim has never let her pregnancy stop her for donning some sleek footwear.

And on the first real day of New York Fashion Week, Kim graced us with the greatest gift of all: a fashion bomb by the name of Yeezy Season 2. The boots paired perfectly with her beige Givenchy ensemble (no surprise). A high-waisted fit and draped peplum emphasized her growing belly while a high leg opening put the Yeezys on display.

Riccardo Tisci is arguably Kim's favorite maternity designer. Kardashian-West donned a Givenchy ensemble for the brand's Spring '16 show in New York. Her gown — entirely sheer lace, except for the bustier — was meant to show off the pregnancy with some black panelling that contoured her bump just so.

Who says you can't wear non-stretch fabrics during your pregnancy? Not Kim K. A leather wrap miniskirt might not have much give, but it certainly makes a statement paired with a destroyed T-shirt and thigh-high suede boots.
