Taylor Swift's Apple Protest Is For The Artists

Taylor Swift penned an open letter "To Apple" on Tumblr early this morning that makes another big statement about the business side of music. She's setting the record straight on why she won't be allowing the new streaming service, Apple Music, to stream 1989 when it debuts on June 30.

"I'm sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service," she writes. "I'm not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company."

This comes after Swift similarly held back her music from Spotify last year and kept 1989 from Tidal. And in case you think she's holding out because she wants to get hers, she's quick to make this all about the little guys and girls out there.

"This is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success," she says. "This is about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut and thought that the royalties from that would get them out of debt."

There's a bit of covering her ass in there — "Apple has been and will continue to be one of my best partners in selling music and creating ways for me to connect with my fans" — but she's for sure going against the grain with this one. Though if they want to change their minds and start paying artists, writers, and producers, she says in.

And our girl is on a roll with awesome statements this weekend. She also hit back at OK! Magazine for a tweet implying that she was pregnant and referring to her as "Harry Styles' ex" with this:
