Based on Fashion Week runways and celebrity sightings as of late, it seems that '60s, '70s, '80s, and '
90s sartorial throwbacks are all the rage right now. But things can get tricky when you decide to mix a bunch of prints, colors, and/or silhouettes from different decades into just one outfit. It’s easy for one detail to overshadow another — or worse, you might end up looking like a walking vintage-boutique sale rack.
So let’s look to Vanessa Hudgens — who seems to have an affinity for the '70s, what with her love of music festivals and flower crowns — as she merged a few retro accents for a totally now
summery street-style look in New York. She started out with a '90s-inspired, printed maxi-dress by Ecote
and paired it with equally Clinton-era, double-strapped slingback heels. Then she brought in a hippie vibe with a fringed leather bag by Kenneth Cole
. Time jumped back yet another decade with her mod, circular sunglasses by The Row by Linda Farrow Gallery
. She finished off her look with a combo of chunky and delicate bracelets and loads of gold chains, plus a choker
, which is so '90s. By keeping her color palette consistent, Vanessa successfully wore 30+ years of sartorial references in just one outfit.
