Emilia Clarke On Why She’ll Never, Ever Google Herself Again

Matt Baron/BEImages
We're used to seeing Emilia Clarke with flowing blonde tresses, flanked by mythical creatures on Game of Thrones. But on the June cover of Marie Claire UK, the actress put away Khaleesi's light, ethereal palette for something a little darker — and we have to admit, we're totally into it. Sporting a leather turtleneck top with cutouts, slicked-back hair, and a spiky ear cuff, Clarke is definitely channeling her own brand of badass biker chic. But don't let the tough-girl act fool you: Even the Mother of Dragons has a few soft spots. The actress admits that she's pretty sensitive — which is why she doesn't search her own name on the internet. Like, ever. "I remember when everything first kicked off, I Googled myself," she tells the mag. "You just do, it’s instinct. But never again. It just takes that one person who says: 'She’s a fat bitch,' and you’re like: 'I’m a fat bitch!'" No woman needs that kind of commentary in her life — and while we're sure that Clarke recovered from the bogus comment quickly enough, what a lame and nasty thing to find written about yourself online. Whoever said that words can never hurt you was dead wrong. Good thing for inner dragons to help quash the haters out there. (Marie Claire UK)
