What Filming A Sex Scene Is Really Like, According To Lena Dunham & Amy Schumer

There are about a million reasons to read The Hollywood Reporter's new round table interview with TV's funniest women. Lena Dunham, Gina Rodriguez, Tracee Ellis Ross, Ellie Kemper, Kate McKinnon, and Amy Schumer all sat down to discuss everything from potential Hillary Clinton campaign slogans — we're partial to "Guys, Come On" — to the struggle to fight for more money. The conversation also turned to how Hollywood handles race, and feminist issues, dealing with hate on social media, and learning to not apologize for your own ideas. And then they got to sex. Schumer shared an issue she had with what should have been a straightforward kissing scene for her new film, Trainwreck. "This guy we were going to have make out with me was like, 'Um, do you want our first kiss to be on camera?'" she told the group. "I was like, 'No, no, come to my trailer and we'll make out beforehand.' It was so grotesque. I'm like, 'Did you think I cast you because I want to make out with you?' Then there was a lot of unnecessary touching. I was like, 'Get that guy out of there.'" That's nothing compared to what happens on the Girls set. Two words: Vagina patch. "I stopped wearing the nude patch after the first season of Girls," Dunham said of the show's sex scenes. "There's not one guy who works on that show who hasn't seen the inside of my vagina." What is this patch, you ask? "You glue it over your vagina," the actress/writer explained. "It gets sweaty and always falls off. My male co-stars, at the end of the day, don't care." Men, meanwhile, wear a "penis bag." As you can imagine, it's all still very, very awkward. "I never understand when people say, 'Sex scenes are so mechanical; it doesn't feel like anything,'" Dunham said. "It feels like someone fucking you! It's confusing." Admit it: This is totally going to change the way you watch Girls.
