Opening April 24, The Age of Adaline marks Blake Lively's long-awaited return to film after a three-year break. It's a role that any leading lady would love to sink her teeth into, a 29-year-old woman who, after an accident, finds herself immune to aging.

The film's story spans eight decades as the eternally youthful Adaline falls in love, bears children, and sees the world around her change while still remaining exactly the same on the outside. "Forever young" may sound like an appealing concept to some, but her condition takes its toll on Adaline's psyche.

In this exclusive sneak peek from the film, Lively's Adaline discusses her sense of hopelessness with Ellen Burstyn, who plays her daughter. (Yes, that's an unexpected twist.) Adaline's argument is that love is meaningless if you don't have the prospect of growing old together. That, she says, is heartbreak.

Watch it all in the clip above. We're gonna need our hankies for this one.
