Little Women Is Getting A Remake

Normally, we're extremely wary when Hollywood decides to remake a beloved film. But, when you consider that the 1994 Winona Ryder/Claire Danes version of Little Women was itself a remake, today's news becomes a little easier to swallow. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Sony is giving Louisa May Alcott's classic tale a reboot. Embattled exec Amy Pascal is slated to produce the film, while actress/writer/director Sarah Polley (Go, Stories We Tell) is in talks to adapt the novel for the big screen.  The biggest challenge filmmakers may face is finding a Jo March who can hold her own against the near-perfect portrayals by Katharine Hepburn and Winona Ryder. It's a role that could spell Oscar gold for someone like Keira Knightley or Natalie Portman. It seems either Anne Hathaway or Felicity Jones could make a respectable Meg, with Mia Wasikowska as Beth and Amanda Seyfried as a grown-up Amy. Let's throw in Julianne Moore as Mrs. March, Eddie Redmayne as Laurie, and perhaps Liam Neeson as Professor Bhaer.  No need to thank us, casting directors. Just do the book justice.
