Kate Pierson’s “Guitars & Microphones” Will Pep Up Your Monday Morning

You probably know Kate Pierson best as the fiery redhead in the B-52's, the band responsible for poppy post-punk hits like "Rock Lobster" and '80s favorite "Love Shack." After four decades in the seminal band, Pierson has finally released a solo record, Guitars and Microphones, which dropped on February 17. That the artist is only now going solo at age 66 says a lot about the staying power of the B-52's. That she teamed up with Sia and Nick Valensi from The Strokes for her debut LP says a lot about Kate herself. Today, Refinery29 is pleased to premiere the video for the album's title track. It's just the sort of sunny pop that we all need on a cold March Monday.  The video is filled with old pictures of Kate, giving it a nostalgic feel. Regarding her inspiration for the video, the singer-songwriter told us, "The song is autobiographical, so I mined my treasure chest of family photos, and my friends Dan and Dayna pulled them all together to make the soundtrack of my early days."  There's something satisfying about browsing the old pictures of such an inspiring woman — getting an inside glimpse of the different phases (and hairstyles!) of her long and varied career. Plug in your headphones, hit play, and get ready to start your day in the best possible way: With a heavy dose of musical serotonin.
