Why This Lovely Lady Is The Most Talked About Model At Fashion Week

There's a new model making waves during Fashion Week this season. And, she's unique in a way we're not used to seeing represented on the runway. Chantelle Brown-Young, 20 — also known as Winnie Harlow, an alter ego she created for herself to summon confidence, as she told Today.com — was diagnosed with the pigment disorder vitiligo when she was four years old. She first caught our attention after she was chosen as a contestant on America's Next Top Model back in May, and continues to flourish in the fashion industry, having landed campaigns with Desigual and Diesel. Just recently, she strutted the Madrid and New York Fashion Week runways for Desigual, reports the BBC. "I feel like the industry is very much opening up, widening their eyes," Harlow told the BBC. "That's what people are looking for...something they can relate to, a real person." We couldn't agree more, and we're applauding this diversification. It's also worth noting that Harlow represents another group of women who are all too often excluded from runways: Black women. We've seen too many all-white fashion shows, and this is still a serious and persistent issue.
