The Always Badass RBG Was A Lil' Drunk At The State Of The Union

At the most recent State of the Union, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg appeared to fall asleep while the President was speaking. And, while no one could really blame her for dozing off (some of us fell asleep watching at home, and she's 81!), breaking news would indicate the judge wasn’t actually sleepy at all: She was just a little bit buzzed.

At a George Washington University event Thursday, RBG pointed out that while the rest of the SOTU audience was busy conveying emotion through facial expressions and head bobbing, the justices have to sit there stoically. "But," she said, "we’re not — at least I was not — 100% sober.”

Apparently Ginsberg was sipping a fine California wine alongside Justice Anthony Kennedy prior to the president’s speech. “I vowed this year, just sparkling water, stay away from the wine,” she told People. “But, in the end, the dinner was so delicious, it needed wine. So, I got a call when I came home from one of my granddaughters and she said, ‘Bubbe, you were sleeping at the State of the Union!'”

So, there you have it: She wasn't tired, just a little tipsy. Even the most badass Supreme Court Justice of all needs to let loose every once in awhile. A toast to RBG!
