Katy Perry's Makeup Was The Real Winner Of Super Bowl XLIX

It had a gigantic lion robot, dancing sharks, and light-up beach balls. No, this wasn't your younger cousin's oddly themed seventh birthday party — it was Katy Perry's halftime performance at Super Bowl XLIX. While plenty took to social media to throw shade on the show and exchange clever quips, we're just here to declare last night's beauty looks the clear winners of the game. No contest. (Sorry, Tom Brady.)

First of all, Katy, woman of perpetually changing hair colors, chose a subtler-than-usual shade for her high, cascading ponytail: jet black. But, the hair was just the appetizer. The main course: her killer makeup. While we dug the red lips (CoverGirl Seduce Scarlet, in case you were wondering), we also couldn't keep our eyes off, well, her eyes.

The star's go-to makeup artist, Jake Bailey, swept on a glitter adhesive. Then, he painstakingly placed a mix of gold and silver glitter on top. He used a teeny-tiny eyeliner brush to make sure every bit of sparkle was properly placed, because ain't nobody got time for wayward glitter. And, thus, Katy's Old-Hollywood-meets-'90s-rave look was born.

But, there was one more trick up the show's sleeve. Queen Missy Elliott exploded on stage, much to our surprise and elation. While we all broke it down to "Work It," middle-school-dance style, we couldn't help but notice Missy's own beauty moment: She was sporting neon nails. In fact, they were YELLOW neon nails, which, mixed with the black lights she was dancing under, shone bright from that Arizona stadium right into our enchanted eyes.

Overall, the big game's big show was a beauty bonanza, the likes of which we haven't seen in years. If only the red carpets of awards season could contain so much neon and glitter. That's the kind of world we want to live in.
