The most profound relationships are often the ones that challenge our beliefs and make us question ourselves. When one partner is vegan, and the other is not, a slew of interesting situations arise, from simple to complex. Where do you go for dinner? What can or can't you keep in the fridge? How do you get rid of that dreaded hot-dog breath? Can you love someone whose lifestyle straight-up opposes your own?
We're both long-term vegans — Ayinde his entire life and Zoe since adulthood — and when we met, we just had to discuss our past relationships, which weren't always simpatico. Our real “aha” moment came with the blunt realization that despite being faithful vegans ourselves, neither one of us had ever dated another vegan. Crazy, right? Our past relationships taught us both that troubles can arise when diet and lifestyles just don't align. That’s why we wrote The Lusty Vegan
— to bring you recipes and tips for bridging that vegan/non-vegan dinner-table divide. Read on for our top four pointers and five of our favorite vegan recipes.
