Sam Smith Singing Tracy Chapman Is Pure Earmilk

Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" is one of those tracks that, no matter when it comes on, someone will undoubtedly start singing along. It's one of those timeless classics that doesn't necessarily get better with age, but doesn't tire, either. The track's been covered by nearly everyone, but few have channeled Chapman's husky drawl as well as Sam Smith.
The 22-year-old Brit covered "Fast Car" this week during a stop at BBC's Radio 1. Like other artists before him who have stopped by the Live Lounge, Smith performed a song in a genre outside his go-to sound of soul-pop. Folk-pop suits this fella well.

Smith manages to put an elegantly emotional spin on Chapman's already tender track. This is just another reason to keep your ears keen on Smith. His debut LP In The Lonely Hour is a blissful collection of crooners. And, thank goodness too since Adele's album is yet to be announced and British soul was seriously lacking in music until now.
