Who? Allison Weiss, the newly minted Cali gal making rock tunes to jive to.
How long has she been around? Her first official EP is just one year old, but she's had a guitar in her hands for 12 years.
What does she sound like? Weiss' sound is honest. Plain and simple.
When should you listen to her? Weiss has rather brilliantly figured out a way to capture the feeling of not being able to stop thinking about something in music form. And, because of that, her music becomes a release.
If this song was added to a soundtrack, it would play: It'd be the song playing while the audience is first introduced to the movie's badass heroine.
Weiss' "Giving Up" has this whole Liz Phair-meets-the-sincerity-of-Neko-Case vibe. Aside from her guitar skills, those qualities are probably why she was handpicked by Lou Reed to be in his European tour band. Speaking with Refinery29, Weiss said that track "was the first one I started and the last one I finished." Funny, the song called "Giving Up" was finally realized by giving up. "This song is like that feeling," Weiss said, "except you can dance to it." Amen. Now all we need is to throw our hands up in the air.
