Chloë Grace Moretz Is NOT A "Flimsy Floodle"

Like a young Sigourney Weaver or Natalie Portman circa The Professional, Chloë Grace Moretz has a pretty amazing place in Hollywood. She's the requisite actress who is cast when the role demands someone who is both young and, well, a total badass. Just think about it: Her characters in Kick-Ass, Let Me In, Dark Shadows, and Carrie (well, the second half, at least) add up to an array of some tough young ladies.

Her character in Lynn Shelton's Laggies, however, veers slightly away from the crime-fighting, blood-spilling tendencies of her other roles, but keeps her signature wit and snark intact. Playing opposite Keira Knightley, Moretz's character Annika ends up friending the (slightly) older woman, who is going through a quarter-life crisis. Like her character, Moretz is just as levelheaded as the adults around her, and while she might not be a crime-fighting vigilante in real life, she is still pretty darn kick-ass.
How was it working with Keira, who is such a lovely pro?
"Keira is amazing. I worked with Keira, Sam, and Lynn. It was just so special, and so sweet. It was just a great group of people! I couldn't have asked for anything better."
We just started working with Drew Barrymore (she's our Editor-at-Large). Didn't she direct a video with you as the star?
"I love her. Yeah, Best Coast."
You were Juliet, right?
"Yeah! Romeo & Juliet mixed with Grease, mixed with West Side Story."
It was so cute. It was great to see Doc Martens again in a fashion context, which was new then. It was awesome.
"That was the moment when, like, Doc Martens were really coming back in full force. The whole look was really coming into itself. Drew was great. She styled and directed the whole thing, too! She's amazing."

She's the best. Hey, we were listening in, and we heard you were saying that two beers equals...
"...A loaf of bread, yeah."
With that in mind, are you going to continue to act, or are you thinking of going to college?
"I'm a junior right now in high school, going to be a senior at the end of this semester. I don't know. I want to be able to go to college, but I know that when I turn 18, I'm going to want to focus of my job. I think what I want to do is really focus on acting, really harbor that, and work really hard. When I have the chance, then I'll go to, like, NYU and take random classes and try some cinematography, art history, and abnormal psychology. At the end of the day, my real job is acting. I value learning a lot, and I like learning, though. So, I will learn, but right now, it's hard enough to act and worry about school."
What are your favorite classes?
"History, literature — that's all you really have in high school. Oh, and French!"
Are you fluent in French?
"I can, like, comprehend French well. I can hear conversations and understand the majority of what's being said. It's hard to speak it and write it. It's hard to respond to someone. I can say random things, but when you're speaking with someone who is French, that's when it gets real tricky."
Being able to think that way is really...
"It's just kind of scary, kind of terrifying."

You also kill it on the fashion front. Do you work with a stylist you like?
"Yeah! I've had the same stylist for past five years. Her name is Nell Kalonji. She's great. She works at AnOther Magazine in London. She mainly does editorial."
So, it's kind of fun to take the editorial into real life.
"Yeah, that's why I like her so much. She brings an editorial sensibility to celebrity fashion, which is usually so stale. It's cool to have the British sensibility, too."
That's a good point. Is there anyone else out there that you're always pleased with sartorially?
"That's hard. I don't know! Keira — oh, definitely Keira, for sure. That's a really good pick. She always has amazing style. I'm trying to think back to the Golden Globes — who looked really good?"
Who did look really good? Oh, Cate Blanchett.
"Amy Adams!"

Yes! She looked good.
"Oh, I love her style. She always looks amazing, and her body is crazy good. She must work out, like, all the time. Kate Hudson, too, she always looks really pretty."
Are you as much of a badass in real life as you play in movies?
"No! Not at all."
You're like the current go-to badass, though.
"Oh, completely. I might seem that way, but if you put a spider in front of my face, I'll run away screaming. I can hold my ground. I have four brothers and I'm the youngest. I'm definitely not like a flimsy, flimsy floodle, you know?"
Whoa! I have three brothers! I have so much respect for that.
"There's a lot you have to deal with."
Speaking of badass. If you had to be one — Bella, Katniss, or Hermione — who would it be?
"Oh, Hermione has the powers. So, that's way more fun than Katniss. She's cool, but she has a bow and gets really messed over by the system. I don't want to have Katniss' life."
