Sophia Webster has been feeding our obsession for rule-breaking footwear since she graduated from the prestigious Cordwainers College in 2008. Now, the London-based shoe designer has hinted at opening her first store in 2015.
Speaking to British Vogue at the launch of her second pop-up shop in Covent Garden, Webster says, “At the moment, we're testing it all out. Our first pop-up in Burlington Arcade went well, so we'll have to see how it goes in Covent Garden. I'm still learning about our customers and what they want. When we do open up, it'll definitely be in London. It's all happened so quickly though, I'm just going to roll with whatever happens next." That’s more than enough confirmation to get us excited!
We're not the only ones in love with Webster's quirky-cool footwear. Her designs have been seen on the famous feet of the Kardashians and Chloe Moretz. But, Webster is still hoping for one particular celebrity to wear her styles: "I'd love to see Gwen Stefani in a pair of my shoes. She was one of my idols growing up, that'd be like going full circle."
Webster attributes most of her business prowess to luxury designer Nicholas Kirkwood. She has nothing but high praise for her mentor under whose guidance she built the foundation of her flourishing brand. “Both he and his business partner were such a big help when I first started. I've learnt so much from them both — when Nicholas has an idea, he exhausts all possibilities," she explains. "He is always so determined. He's taught me to be instinctive and trust in what you do."
It's the combo of star power and professional savvy that will launch Webster to the next level. Consider us at the front of that opening day queue, come 2015. In the meantime, click through to browse the gorgeous Covent Garden pop-up.(Vogue)
