5 Lessons In Party Dressing, Straight From The Red Carpet

On Tuesday the great and the good of the fashion world came together for the British Fashion Awards. Marc Jacobs, Kate Moss, Poppy Delevingne, and Suki Waterhouse walked the red carpet in looks that were as awe-inspiring as they were education.

Leave that LBD at home
Trust Alexa to make us rewrite the rulebook. The it-Brit smoulders (as only she can in sub-zero temperatures) in a tailored mini dress with sweetheart neckline. And, the finishing touch? A slick of ruby red lipstick and a marcel-wave side parting. True love.

Supersize me!
Yasmin Sewell’s cocktail dress speaks volumes. Literally. The ballerina skirt, champagne sheath top, and metallic accessories just feel so refreshing for a black-tie look. Who needs springtime when you can rock this dress right now?

Toy story
The first time we saw Pixie Geldof’s outfit we thought she was carrying a Popple; the childhood toy of our dreams. Sadly it’s not the case, but the model and co-founder of jewellery label Funky Offish, is giving her look a ‘90s glam-grunge vibe we very much dig. The shimmery bias cut gown with prerequisite spaghetti straps could have come straight from our wardrobe circa ’94 but, the artfully dishevelled pixie cut and flaming-red nails keep it this side of the twenty-first century.

No pants please – sorta
Thanks to Poppy Delevingne we’re seriously considering hitting the town with just a tuxedo shirt and no pants. The model, and big sister to Cara, looks stunning in this monochrome hue silk shirt complete with grand piano detailing. The strappy heels and box clutch complete the picture.

Pastel power
Suki Waterhouse is a vision in violet and makes us reconsider this powdery shade as an after-dark color option. The hue gives this revealing gown, with its plunging neckline, an air of elegance and the whisper-thin gilt necklace is pretty wonderful, too.
