Let's just say that Donatella isn't too flattered that her own design house's story is getting the small screen treatment. In light of Lifetime's weekend premiere of its newest original movie,
House of Versace
, the real House of Versace has released a statement regarding what we'll be watching this Saturday. And let's just say that not everything that glitters is gold.
"Versace has neither authorized nor had any involvement whatsoever in the forthcoming TV movie about Mrs. Versace," the fashion house told WWD. "Since Versace did not authorize the book on which it is based, the movie should only be seen as a work of fiction." Said book, House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder and Survival by Deborah Ball, is essentially a biographical look at Donatella's life post-Gianni. Interviews with fashion insiders, Versace's lovers, and supermodels prop up the book, but it has no official affiliation with the house.
Previous parodies of Donatella have amused the designer (read: Maya Rudolph's
SNL
skits), but this weekend's event is far from a joke. Fiction or not, we'll be tuning in if only to watch Gina Gershon's uncanny impersonation of Donatella herself. (WWD)
