The Real Oscars Snub? Anne Hathaway Ditching Valentino For Prada!

Apparently, it wasn't just the oddly placed darting of Anne Hathaway's Prada gown that's got the fashion industry in a tizzy today. It turns out the best supporting actress winner was slated to wear Valentino but ditched the dress at the last minute — forcing stylist Rachel Zoe to scramble for a second look. (The Italian house even sent out a press release announcing that she, Sally Field, and Jennifer Aniston would walk in its designs!). And, while switcheroos are standard during awards season, the idea that Hathaway would abandon a frock from the man who crafted her wedding gown (among other knockout red-carpet looks) had many folks puzzled.

According to our friends at Fashionista, Amanda Seyfried's Alexander McQueen gown gave Hathaway a case of déjà vu, and the actress wanted to avoid "Who wore it best?" comparisons at all costs. Hours before the event, Zoe was able to call in additional options, including the Prada number Hathaway's mother deemed "business in the front, party in the back." A blinding Tiffany & Co. choker completed her spring-ready ensemble. And, when all is said and done, she did look stunning and scored herself a statue. So, no harm, no foul — right, Valentino?
