The end of an era. Nicolas Ghesquière, one of the most acclaimed and recognizable designers of the last decade, has decided to leave his post at Balenciaga. Ghesquière, often attributed to reviving the brand and scoring big with adoring editors — while also ensuring that every star with a high fashion sensibility proudly wore the label — has decided to leave in a "joint decision" announced this morning.
Not only is this news abrupt, but it also comes on the heels of the spring '13 show, which was one of Ghesquière's most popular to date. As of now, no more news has come in (Cathy Horyn seemed to have broken the story, but doesn't appear to have any other info), though, certainly the entire fashion world is anxiously awaiting Ghesquière's next move.
