Photo: Can Nguyen/REX USA.With talented women like Lena Dunham behind the camera, you'd think ladies would be a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. But, as a new study proves, for every Dunham (or Kathryn Bigelow or Sofia Coppola), there are a hell of a lot of guys calling the shots.
In fact, the numbers are even more grim than you might think: The data from San Diego State University's annual "Celluloid Ceiling" survey revealed that there are fewer women in film production now than there were in 1998. The study analyzed 250 of 2013's top-grossing films, and found that only six percent of the directors and ten percent of the writers were women. The study analyzed other important behind-the-scenes roles, such as producer, editor, and cinematographer, and the percentages were similarly underwhelming.
What does this say about Hollywood today? Well, ladies, unfortunately we have a lot of work to do. (Variety)
