This sparsely populated region of the Central Coast of California is riddled with natural wonders from thousand-year-old Sequoias to pristine beaches to remote hot springs.

Pro Tip: To reach this part of the Atacama desert, you would usually fly into Santiago, Chile then connect to Calama, then drive (a good easy road) to San Pedro de Atacama — which is your base to explore. There is an area with tons of flamingos, which is a must-see.

The best hiking views in New Zealand, with a variety of different landscapes.

Pro Tip: Tongariro Alpine Crossing is said to be the best one-day hike in New Zealand — and in the world for that matter. You need to have transportation or a guide drop you at the beginning and pick you up at the end. Note that the route is 12 miles long, steep at times, and the weather can be unpredictable.
