This Is The Most Inspiring Thing You'll See Today

Since becoming a cultural icon in the 1940s, Rosie the Riveter has continued to be an empowering symbol for women in the workplace. The timeless pose of Rosie flexing in a red bandana under the slogan "We can do it!" is instantly recognizable and celebrated. So, it comes as no surprise that throngs of folks would want to gather to honor the feminist figure — and set a new world record while they're at it. This past weekend, at the Rosie The Riveter Memorial in Richmond, CA, women of all ages broke the Guinness World Record for "the most Rosies gathered in one place at one time since World War II," according to the Contra Costa Times.

Over 1,000 Rosie the Riveter lookalikes congregated at the event; each attendee was admitted and counted based on the criteria of her costume — down to the size of the polka dots on the bandana. "Speaking as a child of the feminist movement, I think that this is amazing history for people about breaking barriers," Marsha Mather-Thrift, executive director of the Rosie the Riveter Trust, told the Contra Costa Times. It looks like the group made history indeed — all while crushing the previous record (set in March of 2014 in Michigan).

We hope Rosie's inspiring message will continue to motivate women for years to come.
