Rodarte Goes To The Wheat Fields As We Fall Head Over Heels (Again)

rodarte-fall-2011-1
We expect breathtakingly beautiful clothes every time we go to a Rodarte show, and this season was no exception for the Mulleavy sisters, who delivered a heart-palpitatingly stunning collection inspired by the wheat fields of Breadbasket U.S.A.. Hand-spun Amish-quilted sweaters and Nicholas Kirkwood's art-deco beaded lace up boots gave the collection a distinctly crafty feel that was offset by lush green Edwardian floor-length coats that sported precise, surgical cut outs. Though Rodarte's signature intricacy was evident in delicate pieces, such as grain-toned chiffon and tulle dresses with sequin embellishments, this season marked a move into functionality for the sisters. Jumpsuits and high-waisted trousers spoke of a more low-key, daywear approach, with back draping and cross over panels that showcased the designers' penchant for detailing. In a show that took place just after Valentine's Day, the audience, which included Kirsten Dunst, Sofia Coppola and Karen Elson, certainly fell even deeper in love with Rodarte, walking out in an enamored dream-like haze once the designers took a bow.
