The Odd Couple: Petit Bateau Taps Christian Lacroix

So it's true: opposites do attract. Petit Bateau, purveyor of pared-down Parisian chic and doyenne of the Breton stripe, has enlisted Christian Lacroix to create a capsule collection for the fashion brand.
You know, the decadent Parisian haute couturier who built his rep during the 1980s financial boom thanks to his extravagant silhouettes and lavish decoration.
Not that we're complaining, a quick peruse at the history of awesome fashion collaborations suggests that the greater the contrast in collaborators, the better the threads—as Proenzer Schouler for Target and Karl Lagerfeld for H&M demonstrated.
And there is a third—perhaps even more surprising—participant in this new collaboration: the Paris National Opera. It’s not yet clear what the Paris National Opera, for whom Lacroix has previously designed costumes, is bringing to the party—but we’re pretty sure it’s going to be good.
The unlikely trio will create a capsule collection scheduled to go on sale on December 6, WWD reports, which will comprise four styles for women and two for children. You'll be able to get your paws on it in Petit Bateau stores, or if you happen to be swinging by the Opera Garnier boutique in Paris.
Lacroix has worked on plenty of high profile projects since he closed his label in early 2010, from designing hotels to stage costumes. We have high hopes for this latest project, and can't wait to see how the unique combination of Breton stripes and high theatrics will be realised according to Lacroix's inimitable aesthetic.
