"I started with a pale-green base and sectioned off three small squares in bright blue. For all other detailing, I used either a striper brush, or acrylic paint and a small paintbrush. You should also use a dotting tool to create perfect black-and-white dots."

Chanel
"Paint the whole nail neon red, and in the center of the nail, create an organic stripe with a brighter hot pink. Allow this to dry, then create another thinner organic stripe with a lighter pink. After these colors have dried, swipe on silver from the base of the cuticle towards the middle of the nail, and from the tip towards the middle — avoiding the stripe of pink faded color. It's hard to find a good silver, but Ginger + Liz's 'Tuck Me In' is amazing and covers very well. To complete the look, use the same neon red you started with to add a few dots and lines on the silver, giving a faded effect."

Christian Dior
"Start with a neon pink nail. Then, mix your black color with a thin base coat in order to layer it — I suggest you start with mostly the base coat. Use an eyeshadow brush to apply the thinned-out color to the bottom half of the nail using very, very gentle swipes and dabs. With each layer, you start a bit lower on the nail and the mixture will be increasingly opaque. A good top coat will also help blend the gradient."

Comme des Garçons
"Start with a light, almost lavender-pink color. I recommend the pink from my Shibuya kit with The New Black. It's easiest to freehand the circles using red acrylic paint. You could also use the end of a new Q-tip or smoking filter as a stamp for your circles. If you plan to use a Q-tip, twist the cotton in your fingers to control any loose bits. You'll need an ample amount of color, and I suggest using nail polish rather than acrylic with a Q-tip."

Carven
"Start by painting the whole nail cream, then split the nail in half with bright red on one side. Allow both layers to dry, then split the red in half with a bright royal blue or purple. I used a striping brush in black to create the thinner black stripes on the cream side, and a striper brush in white and red to create the very thin lines on top of the red and royal color blocks. If you don't have striping brushes, you should try using a fluid acrylic paint — I like Golden Fluid Acrylics for this."

Birkenstocks. Yes, Birkenstocks
Before you run screaming in terror, hear us out. Celine did it, Giambattista Valli did it, and CFDA-winning Elder Statesman did it...and did it well. While our shoe of 2013 might not be 'Stocks per se, those flat, funky, wide-strapped sandals are definitely making a comeback. Clean, easy Americana always wins (think Cambridge Satchels or heritage bags), and while the brand might not originate from the U.S., it's got laid-back attitude as a part of its DNA.

Wraparound Bangs
This might not be a look for everyone, but those blunt, angled bangs with clean lines are set to replace the messy fringe. Chanel showed us how to make the look whimsical, indie songstresses taught us how to make it edgy, Melon Cat demonstrated the funny version, and our own Bethany Brill can work it every day. We're declaring the It-haircut of 2013 right here, right now.

Anna Wintour, Vogue No More
This might be our most daring prediction, but just think: Ms. Wintour has been at the helm of U.S. Vogue for 22 years. Isn't it time for a change? And with all of the Obama rumors swirling, now is a great time for her to, erm, diplomatically leave her post.

Designer Collaborations Revisited
It's no secret that designer collaborations are quickly losing their sheen. In order to move merchandise, big box stores are going to have to come up with better ways of selling their goods. Margiela for H&M dug into its archives, while Neiman Marcus and Target (albeit, an unsuccessful pairing) turned to curation instead of design. It's time to think outside of the (big) box.

Get Involved: Global Labor
Okay, this is more of a wish than a prediction, but after the Bangladesh fires of '12, plus watching how the fashion community can rally around a cause like Obama, we think it's time the heavies threw their weight behind reforming labor laws. Hat tip to organizations like Global Labour Rights and Not For Sale for keeping this issue front and center.

Taupe
Elegant, feminine, and a good match for… well…everything, taupes with hints of lavender were seen all over Fashion Week this past February. But don’t think of it as neutral. Interchangeably shimmering or soft on the runways of Dior, Edun, and Phillip Lim, this natural pick for fall is a true standout.
Given its inherent versatility, it’s not hard to cook up a look accented by OPI’s new taupe “Berlin There Done That,” but those nail wizards at OPI have given us something special with this nail-art design. Starting off with two full coats of its “German-Icure” burgundy, use your nail-art pencil or brush to add a swipe and three dots of "Berlin There Done That," for a jewel-tone-and-neutral masterpiece perfect for fall and holiday fashion.

Ruby
Like a big, wet kiss on the cheek, rich rubies with a touch of purple (are you seeing a trend here?) bowled us over when they appeared on the runways of Kenzo, Miu Miu, Cynthia Rowley, and many, many more. As romantic as all this deep red is, it can be hard to rock from head to toe — luckily, we’ve got some nail art to cover that.
Not only does OPI’s “Danke-Shiny Red” bring that luxe, impossible-to-miss ruby to your nails, it has a starring role in this next composition. Start off with a layer of the mauve “Schnapps Out Of It!,” then create simple triangles using “Don’t Talk Bach to Me,” “Suzi & the 7 Düsseldorfs,” “Danke-Shiny Red,” and “Unfor-greta-bly Blue.” Edge your shapes with OPI’s “Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine!” for an abstract, ruby-accented design.

Red-Orange
Lest you think ruby was the only red on the catwalks, a bright, fiery red-orange also opened our eyes when we checked out Jason Wu’s and Diane von Furstenberg’s fall collections. In particular, we’ve been waiting with baited breath ‘til Charlotte Ronson’s scorching, leather harem pants hit the racks.
As hot as a chili pepper, OPI’s "Deutsch You Want Me Baby?" will not only work with any new red-orange addition to your arsenal, but will be downright flammable with any LBD. For a twist, start with two full coats of OPI’s new, red-hot “Deutsch You Want Me Baby?,” paint an “Unfor-greta-bly Blue” diagonal line to the top, right-hand side, and finish with another diagonal line from the left in “Every Month is Oktoberfest.” Smokin'.

Beige
To be perfectly square with you, we’ve never thought of autumn as a great time for soft, pinkish beiges. We just don’t feel peachy when the temperature drops, y’know. But a sweetheart look from Dior, a badass (yes, beige badass) quilted-leather jacket from Balmain, and a sweeping valentine of a gown from Jenny Packham ganged up and softly beat us into submission. We’re converts!
Now, because fall is a time where you’re still wearing more darks than lights, we suggest pairing your new, romantic beiges with colors from the other end of the spectrum. For an eye-catching effect, lay on two full coats of OPI’s black-olive “Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine!” then draw two Vs using “Don’t Pretzel My Buttons” beige. Top it off with some fine detailing with "Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine!." The result: a soft pink look with just the right amount of edge.

Chartreuse
Now, if you’ve known us for any godly amount of time, you’d know we have a massive soft spot for anything chartreuse. If you haven’t climbed on board the boat, now is the season. None other than Diane von Furstenberg herself, and our beloved Creatures of The Wind, offered multiple endorsements of our lime-yellow love at NYFW. Convinced yet?
If you’re still on the fence about this, admittedly, divisive color, ease yourself into it with a few chartreuse accessories (bangles, perhaps) and a touch of it on your nails. OPI’s “Don’t Talk Bach to Me” has that lime-yellow flair with a more matte, less neon feel. Are you in or are you in?

Plum
Winter is coming, as they say, and it’s finally time to whip out those deep purples you’ve been hiding from the summer sun. This season, your picks should lean toward that rich, decadent plum we saw on J. Mendel and Bottega Veneta’s catwalks. If you can find a way to make it shine like Carolina Herrera’s slacks, so much the better.
We’ve always favored a purple nail, perhaps because the color is so hard to accessorize elsewhere, and right in time we’ve picked up OPI’s tasty plum “Every Month is Okoberfest.” Even if you keep those purple pieces in the closet, just imagine how hot this will look with a white top.

Burgundy
In a similar vein, but a different tone as this year’s plum, burgundy had a strong presence at the New York shows — despite being a color more traditionally found in Paris and Milan. Diane von Furstenberg (fall’s all-around winner in the color department) gave us this delicious, shiny aubergine jacket (with flats and pants to match), while Christian Siriano chipped in with a lovely silk skirt and Peter Som gifted us this truly striking wine-colored, zip-front dress. Thanks, guys.
Since burgundy is such a famous match for leather, silver, and gold, swiping a lil’ bit of this catwalk color on your nails should make all your bangles, rings, and other hardware pop all that much more. OPI’s glam lacquer, “Germani-cure” should do you just right.

Nude
We’ve already told you how we came around on pink-beige as a fall tone. Well, we’re now in the nude-in-November club, as well. Just take a gander at these rosy, light-as-a-feather fall runway looks from DVF (again!), Valentino, and Badgley Mischka. If you’re not a little bit in love with nude, now, there’s something wrong with your heart.
But sweeping gowns that cost as much as some cars aren’t your only “in” here. We’ve got nude tights, nude tops, and OPI’s nude “My Very First Knockwurst.” For a complimentary look, lay down two coats of “Berlin There Done That” first, and then apply triangles of the nude with a toothpick for this stunning stained-glass-window effect.

Gunmetal
Yes, gray is a fall color. No surprise there. But this season, it’s not only trending metallic, but it’s showing just a touch of olive as well — gunmetal. Charlotte Ronson dipped in her toe with a gray-and-black sweater (which needs to be in our closet right now), while Emporio Armani took a softer approach with a velvet ensemble, and DVF shot for the moon with a shining, metallic gown. Gray, maybe. But definitely not drab.
Now, if you hadn’t noticed, gray nails are becoming so popular that even the First Lady is rocking them — at the Democratic National convention, she shined in a gorgeous blue-gray. For a different take on this trend, snap up OPI’s dark, but tempered “Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine!”

Mauve
Orange was not, unfortunately, as big a deal on the fall runways as we wanted it to be — we’re just suckers for a good tangerine. Still, the more denuded, darker mauve made a strong appearance at Victoria Beckham, Altuzarra, and, most strikingly, on this big, beautiful Carven coat. Better than a pumpkin-spiced latte any day.
This is a runway color perfect for your nails because it blends so well with the tones you wear in fall — dark denim blues, leathery browns, and heather grays. Seemingly stolen right off that Beckham dress, OPI’s “Schnapps Out of It!” is rich and earthy, yet still glam enough for your digits.

Violet
As bad and bold as it wants to be, you can never put violet in the corner. This season, it turned up the brightness and straight-up attacked the audience at DKNY and Honor. In a more tempered and complex Edun dress, it shone as the lead singer in a multicolored band. Wherever it was, violet was extraordinarily vivid this season.
Now, there’s nothing more glamorous and edgy than 10 violet nails — but you have to be careful. Sometimes a flat polish in this shade can come off as young and poppy, instead of bold and sexy. The shimmer in OPI’s “Suzi & The 7 Düsseldorfs,” however, should separate you from the under-18 crowd.

Royal Blue
Here’s the money color of the season. Rich as its name, royal blue went shiny and dramatic for fall ‘12. Badgely Mischka, Gucci, and a score of others played with the jewel tone successfully, but it was an ultra-sophisticated baby-doll dress from Marc by Marc Jacobs that really spun our heads. Funny how much difference a change from white to shimmering blue can make.
Oh, and if you do pick up that Marc by Marc Jacobs dress, we’re advising you go with a fully royal look. Lacquer up with OPI’s “Unfor-greta-bly Blue" and grab some blue flats (or black boots, your call). Its shimmer should match the dress perfectly and turn us a sharp emerald with envy.

Put on two coats of the Fierce N Tangy for your base and let it dry. We wouldn't want your second color smudging into the base, would we?

Create stripes on opposing corners of the nail using Iced Queen. Ideally, you'll use a thin brush here and make your stripes the width of the brush when it just touches the surface of the nail. Don't bear down hard. Let these babies dry before you give them your clear topcoat and...

You're still going to need Fierce N Tangy, Iced Queen, and Green With Envy from Maybelline New York's Color Show Nail Lacquer collection. Add in Onyx Rush and keep that No. 2 brush handy.
