Liu Wen Gets Literary With Tucker’s Fall Collection

Gaby Basora, the NYC designer behind indie brand Tucker, is having a damn good year. She's the next designer to score a collaboration with Target for their Go International series, and starting next week, she'll have a second video in the brand's new series of short films will air on Taxi TV. Known for her vintage prints and bold colors, Gaby goes for a more muted palette in her fall '10 lookbook. The simple cuts and the staple pieces are still there, and there's a couple of powerful punches of brightness, but overall, the clothes lean toward soft tans, heather grays, and some beautiful plums. The latest collection is inspired by French writer Marguerite Duras after Basora scooped up to first editions over at Dashwood books on Bond Street, saying, "There's a fierceness packed into the author-director that I find inspiring and alluring." That spirit certainly translates to Liu Wen, who shines in crisp shots in the lookbook—pensive on a couch, coy in a stairwell, and sexy against a fireplace—and makes us long for a quiet evening at home. We heart the tomboyish (but still feminine) culottes, the perfect white wool trench, and a sandy, pin-tucked dress. After peeping the pics, you may want to find a first edition of your own.
