Joy Adaeze can turn a sidewalk into a runway — her mind-boggling mix of prints and accessories is the stuff of street-style dreams. If you haven't spotted her in NYC, you might have seen the stylist and image consultant on NBC or Essence.com dropping her fashion know-how.

It's Adaeze's blog, Joy Loves Fashion, though, that really fuels her style power. There she offers thousands of followers a Pinterest-worthy selection of her signature blend of colors, patterns, and textures that defies the rules of fashion. We can thank Adaeze’s mom for passing it down, not to mention the vintage pieces that jump-started her wardrobe in the first place (including that trademark turban inspired by her Nigerian roots).

But, even this master mixer is all about the basics. "I always say, start with staple pieces — trends are great, but on a regular Tuesday morning, you want to feel good with no fuss.” Hey, if she has the secret for winning at weekday outfits without waking up 30 minutes early, we're all ears. That's why we tapped her to assemble nine summer ensembles with pieces from T.J.Maxx. The best part? None of the prices will make you break a sweat. Now, that's what we call fashion with benefits.

The Scene: Zipping around on your beach cruiser
    Her Must-Have: Cuffed shorts

What’s more summery than hopping on your ten-speed and biking to the park, beach, or even work? Hot days were made for bike rides, and whatever your destination, these cuffed, patterned shorts are perfect for adding a little polish to your pedal.

"What I love about these shorts is that you can wear them to bike to work or a picnic," says Adaeze. "With shorts, you want a pair that's easy to move in and lays nicely, at a length that's more meet-your-potential-mother-in-law than ready-to-hit-the-dance-floor. When you’re wearing things that fit you correctly, it takes your outfit from a two to a 10."

The Scene: Culture-bingeing at the museum
    Her Must-Have: The multicolored blazer

There's nothing like putting on our highbrow hat and heading to a museum or gallery for a dose of culture. Not shockingly, our typical weekend loungewear won’t cut it for these more sophisticated outings. The key to bridging the gap between looking casual and polished: a patterned blazer. "This blazer makes me so happy,” says Adaeze. “The colors, the print, the fit — it’s not stuffy at all."

"I love the silhouette on this — it really accentuates the body," says Adaeze. "Pair it with slouchy pants for a more relaxed vibe, or dress it up with nice jeans and heels or a skirt." Whatever you wear this blazer with, it gives off a luxe, designer vibe (even though you can snag it for half the price of what you'd pay at a high-end boutique).

    The Scene: Flea-market bargain-hunting
    Her Must-Have: The graphic tee

Where would we be without a trusty cotton tee? Comfortable and lightweight, this summer staple is as easy to throw on with jeans as it is with a cute midi-skirt. Add a cool graphic, and it's anything but basic. "The trick is making a graphic tee more than just a casual throwaway top," says Adaeze. "You never know who you're going to run into in New York, so even on a casual Saturday, you want to look put together."
