5 Going-Out Looks To Copy From Fashion’s In Crowd

When you throw a party with the CFDA and Neiman Marcus, a fashionable showing is par for the course. But, even we were impressed by the assemblage of out-of-the-park outfits at our recent bash honoring the CFDA’s Accessories Designer of the Year, Tabitha Simmons. Over dinner at Omar’s in Greenwich Village, we caught up with friends like Jessica Hart, Tali Lennox, Kate Foley, and our own Paula Goldstein Di Principe, but, really, we were busy taking notes on their exemplary soiree ensembles. Co-hosting the night with CFDA CEO Steven Kolb and Neiman Marcus fashion director Ken Downing, Refinery29 editor-in-chief Christene Barberich toasted the shoe designer, saying, "Her designs are beautiful and wearable, and there really isn't anything more modern than that." Just as modern? Our guests’ distinct takes on party wear, which we’re shamelessly recreating at the soonest opportunity. See who brought their A-game below, and start planning a night out ASAP.

Modern Mary Janes, one of Simmons’ signatures, anchor the designer’s femme silk frock, while Barberich masters matching separates for evening. Takeaway: A rich-looking print and luxe fabric go a long way.

Simmons’ fellow Brit and fashion-world darling Alexa Chung expertly balances bedroom-wear elements — a fitted slip dress and satin-finish topper — with classic accessories.
Victoria’s Secret Angel and Mrs. Kings of Leon Lily Aldridge proves denim definitely qualifies as cocktail attire with a minimal, impeccably cut maxi-dress. Elevated nude sandals keep the easy look elegant.
Menswear-inspired pieces take a downtown turn via Langley Fox Hemingway, who styles slouchy dress pants right: with a casual-cool printed shirt, sturdy heeled boots, and the perfect playful neck accessory.
