This Is Our Jam Premieres: Citizens!, “Caroline (Night Works Get Bored Remix)”

Citizens! is the sort of immediately infectious pop band that the British press fall head over heels for, and they produce the kind of music that you may find yourself singing in the shower after just one listen. Their upcoming album is produced by Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand and will be released on French fashion house-record label Kitsuné. Meaning: They have the rumblings of an act that could get very big, very quickly.

Yet under Night Works’ direction, “Caroline” transforms from stomping dance-rocker to sleepy tropical synthpop while maintaining just a touch of the original vocal hook. It’s a blissed-out alternate-reality take, where woozy synths paint a very different picture than the bombastic original, and the exclamation point in the band's name would be more appropriate replaced with an ellipses.
