Welcome to New York, indeed. Youngsters in the Big Apple have a new reason to idolize Taylor Swift. Actually, make that $50,000 reasons. In keeping with her pledge to donate proceeds from her song "Welcome To New York" to the city that inspired it, Swift has donated $50,000 to New York City public schools. An official with the Department of Education confirmed the generous bequest after Capital filed a Freedom of Information request. “I am informed that Taylor Swift has made a donation of $50,000 to the DOE, without restrictions to support DOE schools,” the official responded. While Swift is currently in London, the NYC Global Welcome Ambassador now considers Manhattan her home.
