The Alex Wang Detail That’s Gonna Be Everywhere Come Fall

Yes, Nicki Minaj sat next to Kanye, who sat next to Kim, who had North on her lap in the front row. Yes, Kendall Jenner walked in the show. Yes, all of the models' hair was greased down in front of their faces, making us fear they might not be able to see in front of them. And, no, there was no breathing room, forcing the gawking crowd to pile back into the caverns of Alexander Wang's warehouse show at South Street Seaport yesterday evening. All of this was par for the course at Wang's highly anticipated runway presentation. But, the show's buzzy atmosphere is not what's going to stick in the fashion canon.
What you'll be seeing and wearing come fall has nothing to do with the bright lights or the famous faces who rushed out the back door before paparazzi could snap their photos. It's the little things that make Wang's collections so attention-grabbing, so coveted, so copied. And, this time, the detail that will stick (among others) is the multi-button blazer. Tiny silver baubles shone amidst the mostly black (on-black-on-black) collection, which was, overall, tough and rocker in nature. But, the rows of three buttons that ran down elongated blazer dresses, cropped boleros, and overcoats kept pieces slick, wearable, and (can we even say this in a Wang review?) almost corporate-professional.  We love the idea of punching up an everyday wardrobe staple with additional hardware that gives it more personality. If the major badass attitude on the runway was any indication, the personality that comes with this detailing is gonna be pretty killer, too.
