Whole Foods Is Really Overcharging Customers

In we've-known-this-all-along news, Whole Foods is too damn expensive. But now, we actually have something to back up our disgruntled, post-grocery trip comments. The New York Times reports that Whole Foods will fork up around $800,000 in penalties and fees as a result of an investigation initiated by SoCal city attorneys.
What, exactly, did the health-conscious chain do wrong? During the investigation, "State and local inspectors discovered that the chain overcharged customers, didn’t subtract the weight of containers, and sold prepared foods by the item rather than by the pound."
Consequently, all 74 California stores will undergo random audits, and Whole Foods will be required to establish "pricing accuracy managers." The chain responded in a statement that it complied with investigators and that "prices were accurate 98 percent of the time." (Sure they were.) Here's hoping we can finally be at peace with our grocery-store receipts. (The New York Times)
