Move Over VMAs: The YouTube Music Awards Are Coming!

What would have happened to the music video had YouTube never come around? The days of TRL and MTV (when, you know, it actually played music) fell away just as the video hosting site stood up on its own two feet. Suddenly, we were able to search for that en vogue video instead of hoping it'd crop up on an early morning edition of VH1's Pop Up Video. Well now, after eight years, YouTube is finally (finally!) hosting its own music video award show.
Mark your calendars, set some alerts, and be sure you're in front of your computer Sunday, November 3. Jason Schwartzman will be hosting the Spike Jonze-directed event, along with some pretty rad performances by Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, and Eminem, all live-streamed to your home. YouTube stars will collaborate with the bigwigs, Schwartzman will be adorable, and you don't even have to change out of your pajamas, people. The nominees will be announced October 17, and voting — just you and your opinion picking the rightful winners — will begin soon after. Plus, there's going to be a pretty big event at New York's Pier 36 at the end of the day that you won't want to miss.
Until then, start binge-watching YouTube. Consider it your homework for the next two weeks.
