A few months after leaving Balenciaga, Nicolas Ghesquière gave one of the most enlightening, honest accounts of what it's like for a creative genius to work within the confines of a corporation. Published in System Magazine, the interview by Jonathan Wingfield paints a pretty bleak picture of the support structure at Balenciaga: "I never had a partner, and I ended up feeling too alone. I had a marvelous studio and design team who were close to me, but it started becoming a bureaucracy and gradually became more corporate, until it was no longer even linked to fashion."
Now, Kering, which owns Balenciaga, is suing Ghesquière for "breach of duty of confidentiality" stemming from his interview. Interestingly, this doesn't suggest that Ghesquière's statements were libelous, but that they were too real. Ghesquière is still currently displaced after having left the brand in November of 2012.
