Screw Conventions! Lanvin Enlists A Real (82-Year-Old) Woman To Model

Fashion: it’s one extreme or another. If it’s not super long, it’s super short; If it’s not way too tight, it’s way oversized; If she’s not too young, she’s too old. Old? You heard right. Whilst we've talked about the debacle that is underage models on the runway, little has been said on the topic of overage models. Is there such a thing? Lanvin doesn’t think so, clearly, as it has cast an 82-year-old woman in its latest campaign.
Taking somewhat of an unusual direction for the luxury fash’ house, Creative Director Alber Elbaz enlists “real people” to feature in the brand’s fall ads. His subjects in question come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and certainly break the standard size 0, 5-foot-zillion model conventions. Seems he scoured New York's streets to source his perfect pack; There's a waiter, a recent U.S. immigrant, a milliner, and said 82-year-old former dancer (pictured). The dancer, fierce though she is, isn’t anybody you’re supposed to know from fashion land. "She was a showgirl at the Apollo," who always dreamed of coming to Paris, says Elbaz. Looks like she got her wish. (Jezebel)
