Dream Date: We Spend Some QT With Johnny Weir

Macy's on State Street celebrated Pride 2011 in high style with Johnny Weir. We didn't want to let Macy's have all the fun, so we spent a few (very lucky) moments with this skating star. Johnny recently released his new book Welcome To My World, and sat down with us to discuss his tome, his humble beginnings, and the crazy life that only he can lead.
What is a typical day like for you?
“I don’t really sleep that much because I have been under really high-stress since I was young, so why not work…if that is the kind of lifestyle you want, you just have to keep marching forward, or else I would be dead right now.”

What was it like growing up in the Weir house?
“ We did not get anything if we did not work for it growing up.” Johnny shared with us how his childhood shaped the hardworking entertainer he is today. “When your parents are working so hard, it does not seem that out of the ordinary to work hard for something. And lucky for me I knew I wanted to be an ice skater when I was 12.”
What message are you hoping to send with your new book?
“My story is very all-American. I had to work very hard for everything I got and was always very determined to be something big…I have had to work for every watch that I own, every month of rent, every makeup palette I own and I think that is a great story.”
What were your thoughts about shooting your book cover?
“I wanted the cover to be very extravagant and crazy because that is what people think of me.” All you Louboutin fans out there be prepared to be green (or should we say red?!) with envy; not only is Johnny wearing a fab pair of heels on the cover but he’s also commissioned a pair of red soul skates that the shoe maven himself, Christian Louboutin, is designing.
Do you have any plans for the future that you're willing to share?
“I don’t feel like I am at home unless iI am in a town of less than 1,000 people.” Johnny shared with us that his dream house near his hometown is for sale and that one day, when he retires, he hopes to go back to that small town. Hopefully that will not be for a very, very long time.
