Photo Finish: How Blogger Claire Geist Found Her Passion

Some people are blessed with laser-like focus. They’re born ambitious, know exactly what they want, and effortlessly reach their career goals as if they had a road map for life. The rest of us, however, usually have to take a more roundabout path. Take blogger Claire Geist, for instance. While studying photography in her freshman year at Parsons, Claire found herself increasingly fascinated with fashion. So, she made the jump to The New School, and a new art history/ fashion major. She also started pursuing her fashion jones at her addictive personal style blog De Lune, where her photo training helps her deliver gorgeous photos of her enviably laid-back style. The photo-turned-fashion maven has us thinking that laser-like focus is totally overrated.

Mixing her favorite pieces from Kenneth Cole Collection's fall line with her own vintage-chic finds, Claire shares her secrets to staying inspired, juggling school and a career, and the absolute worst place to refill a glass of water.
What made you switch majors?
"I started out as a photo major at Parsons, but my blog readership expanded a lot during my freshman year, and I became fascinated with the fashion industry. That’s when I decided to make the switch to learning more about the cultural side of fashion." Did your parents support your career choices?
"Always. My dad is a photographer and I used to help him out on photoshoots — I used to hold up reflectors while he taught me how the camera worked. My mom is a graphic designer and painter, and she encouraged my love of fashion and design history. I feel really lucky to have been raised by artists."
